Unigel signs PPA for 360 MW Onshore wind project in Brazil

Unigel, one of the largest chemical companies in the country, signed a long-term contract with Casa dos Ventos for Babilônia Sul Wind Complex located in Bahia. The contract worth more than BRL 1 billion (USD185 million).

Casa dos Ventos will still have the option of becoming a self-producer, as one of the partners of the Wind Complex. The park will have, in its entirety, 360 MW of installed power and will supply energy to several companies.

The contract provides for the supply of energy for 20 years, starting in 2024. The partnership signed with Casa dos Ventos will avoid the emission of almost 200 thousand tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of planting more than 1 million trees.

Lucas Araripe, Director of New Business at Casa dos Ventos, said: "The long term of the contract signed evidences the companies' commitment not only to decarbonising the production of chemicals but also to the expansion of the renewable matrix. The two-decade partnership contributes to the construction of the new park, adding more wind generation capacity to the country. The moment of water scarcity that we are facing reinforces the urgency of increasing the supply of energy through renewable sources."
