Turbine installation started for 147.5 MW wind power project in Finland

Nordex has begun installing turbines at a 147.5 MW Karahka wind power project located north of the town of Oulainen, about 40 km east of the Gulf of Bothnia in the North Ostrobothnia region, Finland.

The Karahka wind power project features 25 N163/5.X wind turbines that will be installed on about 2,300 ha of land. These turbines will mark the introduction of Nordex's proprietary hybrid concrete and steel tower technology at its tallest, reaching a hub height of 168 m. The concrete elements for the wind turbine towers have been locally manufactured by Lujabetoni. The hybrid tower construction involves assembling and bracing convex concrete segments, each up to 20 m in length, on-site before the installation of steel sections, nacelle, and rotor on top.

Developed by the Finnish subsidiary of the German VSB Group based in Dresden, the wind farm will receive Nordex wind turbines in the cold climate version, equipped with anti-icing technology for rotor blades.
