Squadron Energy has filed documents with the state government of New South Wales, Australia, in a forward step on its proposed 2 GW Koorakee Energy Park, which will include a 1 GW solar farm and 1 GW of wind energy, backed by a 1 GW/12 GWh battery energy storage system.
The project is being developed on a 58,000-ha site about 70 km southeast of Mildura, near the western end of the planned South West Renewable Energy Zone (SWREZ). The SWREZ aims to deliver 3.8 GW of network capacity via the Project EnergyConnect 330 kV transmission line, HumeLink, and the NSW side of VNI West. The Koorakee Energy Park will connect to the grid through Transgrid’s existing 220 kV Buronga/Balranald transmission line and will include new transmission infrastructure with a network of underground and overhead powerlines across a 13,700-ha development corridor.
Construction commences of the Koorakee Energy Park in late 2025, subject to relevant approvals and project financing, procurement, and contracting. The installation is expected to be commissioned during 2028-29.
