SNC Lavalin appoints members of the Board of Directors

SNC-Lavalin, a Montreal-based company that provides EPC and EPCM services in a variety of industry sectors, has announced the appointments of Steven Newman and Jean Raby to its Board of Directors.

Mr. Newman brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry. From 2010 to 2015, he was President & CEO of Transocean, the world’s largest offshore contract driller. Mr. Newman is an Independent Director and Board member of Bumi Armada Berhad, a Malaysia-based international oilfield services provider. He is also a Board member of Dril-Quip, a leading manufacturer of highly engineered products for the offshore oil and gas industry. He brings direct international experience in the global marketplace – from the highly regulated deepwater Gulf of Mexico, to the harsh environments of the North Sea and Norway, to the emerging markets in Africa and the Far East – as well as a broad understanding of international oil companies, national oil companies and independents, and the cyclical and capital intensive nature of the energy industry.

Mr. Newman is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the National Association of Corporate Directors. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the Colorado School of Mines, and a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Newman is a US citizen and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mr. Raby has more than 25 years of experience in investment banking, law and finance. Since 2013, he has been the Executive Vice-President, Chief Financial and Legal Officer of Alcatel-Lucent SA, where he has taken a lead role in the overall restructuring of the business, which included a repositioning of the business strategy, significant cost reductions and complete refinancing of the balance sheet, with the aim of becoming free cash positive in 2015 for the first time in nearly a decade. Prior to his role at Alcatel-Lucent, he spent 16 years in roles of increasing responsibility at the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs, in Paris, France, where he notably became Co-CEO of the division in France in 2006 (then CEO in 2009), and then in 2011 co-CEO of Goldman Sachs’ activities in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. He retired from Goldman Sachs in 2012. In his early career, Mr. Raby was a corporate lawyer with the law firm Sullivan & Cromvell in New York (1989-1992) and in Paris (1992-1996).

Mr. Raby is a member of the New York Bar, and a Board member of One Drop, a Montreal-based NGO focused on enhancing access to clean water. He holds a law degree from Université Laval, a Master of Philosophy in International Relations from University of Cambridge in the UK, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School. Mr. Raby is a Canadian citizen and lives in France.

Lawrence Stevenson, Chairman of the Board of Directors, stated:

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I welcome Steven and Jean to the Board and am looking forward to having their leadership, experiences and contributions at the Board table.”
