J.C. Rathbone Associates opens office in Canada

J.C. Rathbone Associates (JRCA), financial risk management consultancy, has announced the opening of a newly created Canadian office, headquartered in Toronto.

Additionaly, the firms has appointed Hugh Sutcliffe as Director and Head of JCRA Canada Inc. Hugh has over 25 years of capital markets experience, predominantly in the derivatives area.

Hugh is the founder of Nauset Derivative Advisory, a practice providing cross asset class derivative advisory services to financial sponsors and corporate end users in North America and the United Kingdom.

Prior to founding Nauset, he was at RBC Capital Markets for 10 years where he structured and executed hedging transactions covering interest rate, foreign exchange, equity, and credit exposures. He has been involved in assignments for energy producers, power developers/operators, diversified corporations, and financial sponsors. Prior to joining RBC, he worked at General Re Financial Products and CIBC World Markets.

According to the firm, the primary aim of this new initiative is to expand upon and build new business opportunities with the Canadian pension funds and the companies involved in the renewable power and energy sectors.

The old clients will continue to be the responsibility of the New York office. Similarly, while Hugh will co-ordinate JRCA’s marketing of the major pension funds, the relationships that have been established with them outside Canada will remain with the existing client partners.

Hugh will report to William Kloehn, who is responsible for the Group’s North American operations.
