Second Phase Commissioned for 100 MW Solar project in Tibet

China Huadian Corp., a state-owned power generator, has commissioned the second phase of its Caipeng Solar-Storage Power Station adding 100 MW of solar capacity and 20 MW/80 MWh of battery storage in Shannan, Tibet.

It is located at 5,228 meters above sea level and surpasses the first phase's 5,100-meter elevation. Spanning 1.4 square kilometers, this phase incorporates 170,000 solar panels and builds on the initial 50 MW phase launched in December 2023, which has generated over 60 GWh.

PowerChina completed the Caipeng Solar-Storage Power Station 42 days ahead of schedule, using pre-installed mounts and on-site assembly to boost efficiency by 40%. The project features advanced n-type bifacial TOPCon panels, which offer 7.5% higher conversion efficiency than the first phase. These bifacial panels increase efficiency by 20% over traditional models and are designed to withstand harsh conditions, including extreme winds, temperatures as low as -40°C, and heavy snow accumulation.
