Preliminary licence issued for 643.5 MW wind complex in Brazil

Fepam, the environmental protection agency in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has granted the preliminary license (LP) for the 643.5 MW Harmonia wind power complex located in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Located in the municipality of Quarai, the wind complex will consist of seven wind farms made up of 117 turbines in total, each having a capacity of 5.5 MW. The project is anticipated to demand an investment of BRL4.5 billion (US$921 million). Expected to cover an expansive area of over 11,000 ha (27,182 acres).

With the preliminary license secured, the wind project is now awaiting the issuance of the installation license (LI). This critical environmental document will permit the commencement of on-site construction activities. Once the installation license is obtained, the project will transition from planning to execution, enabling the construction of the wind farms and the installation of turbines to begin.
