Lightsource bp has signed a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) for 130 MWdc / 100 MWac Black Bear Solar project located in Montgomery County, Alabama, USA. Under the PPA agreement the project will deliver solar energy to AMEA for a period of 20 years.
The Solar PV facility will consist of 50,000 solar panels which will generate enough electricity to power 20,000 Alabama homes and offset more than 173,252 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
The Black Bear Solar project is estimated to bring US$100 million private capital investment into new, local energy infrastructure for Alabama. The project is in commissioning phase and currently generating electricity into the grid and will be fully operational in November 2022.
