Framework Agreement signed for 1 GW hydrogen project in Egypt

AMEA Power has signed a Framework Agreement with the Government of Egypt to develop a 1,000MW green hydrogen project located at the coastal town of Ain Sokhna in the Suez Governorate, Egypt.

The project is being carried out in collaboration between AMEA Power, the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and the New and Renewable Energy Authority.

The company has already completed a feasibility study for the project, which was conducted by a selected group of international advisors in the different areas – legal, technical and financial. Front End Engineering Design (FEED) is scheduled to start in January 2023, with a Final Investment Decision expected within the next 24 – 36 months.

The plant will be developed in two 500 MW phases and wii target the production of 800,000 tonnes of green ammonia a year for export. The first phase is expected to commence in 2027.
