Engie Energía Perú has announced the start of commercial operations for the 260 MW Punta Lomitas Wind Power Plant located in the Ica Region's district of Ocucaje in Peru. The plant produces a nominal capacity of 260 MW alongside its 50 wind turbines (plus 7 wind turbines from its expansion), 2 electrical substations, and 60 km of transmission lines. Once its 36.4 MW expansion is complete, the Punta Lomitas plant will be capable of generating a total power output of 296.4 MW.
The construction of the plant was financed by an IDB Invest loan for up to US$300 million, which includes resources mobilized from FMO for US$100 million and from BNP Paribas for US$55 million. By reducing over 230,000 tons of CO2 each year, which is equivalent to removing approximately 50,000 vehicles from the roads each year. The plant will help the country achieve its national goal of reducing total emissions by 30% of greenhouse gases compared to its 2030 baseline.
