EDF Renewables has announced the completion of the 457 MW Palen solar photovoltaic and 50 MW energy storage project located on 3,478 ac of federal land administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Riverside County, California, USA.
The Palen Solar Project was built in five phases beginning in December 2020. The first phase generated 125 MW, the second phase 100 MW, the third phase 100 MW, the fourth phase 132 MW, and the final phase 50 MWh of battery storage.
The BLM granted EDF Renewables approval in 2018 to construct the solar photovoltaic project and a single circuit 230 kV generation interconnection transmission line, which would transmit power for around seven miles to the Southern California Edison Red Bluff Substation.
