Commercial operation starts for 1.5 GW Offshore wind farm in the Netherlands

Vattenfall has announced that the 1.5 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid Offshore wind farm has successfully generated its first electricity. The project is currently under construction on a site located around 18-35 km off the Dutch coast in the North Sea, Netherlands. The produced electricity is transferred to shore via an offshore transformation station and fed into the Dutch grid.

The wind farm consists of 140 11 MW turbines which will have the capacity to generate enough energy to power approximately 1.5 million Dutch households. Out of 140 wind turbines, 36 turbines have already been installed.

The wind project is owned by Vattenfall, BASF and Allianz and is expected to become fully operational in 2023.
