Shell Nederland B.V. and Shell Overseas Investments B.V., subsidiaries of Shell plc, have taken the final investment decision to build Holland Hydrogen I located on the Tweede Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The 200MW electrolyzer will be Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen plant once operational in 2025. The renewable power for the electrolyzer will come from the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (Noord), which is partly owned by Shell. The project has the capacity to produce up to 60,000 kg of renewable hydrogen per day.
The project intends to supply hydrogen to the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, replacing some of the grey hydrogen used in the refinery. This will contribute to the facility's production of energy goods like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel being partially decarbonized.
