Cadeler has been awarded a contract to transport and install 76 Vestas 15 MW offshore wind turbines for the 1.2 GW Baltic Power project, located in the Polish Baltic Sea. This deal is worth between EUR 68-EUR 85 million (US$74.2 - US$92.7 million).
The renewable energy site, covering an area greater than 130 sq km, will be located 23 km North of the Polish coast near Leba. The wind facility will have the capacity to produce up to 80 GWh/year, enough to power around 20,000 European households and displace more than 38,000 tonnes of CO2, which is the equivalent of removing 25,000 passenger cars from the road every year.
To make this wind farm possible, Cadeler will use one of their two O-class installation vessels that will feature a new and upgraded crane with a lifting capacity of 1600 tonnes at a radius of 40 m by the time of the project execution. The overall development of the site is scheduled to commence in 2024, with turbine installation projected to begin in 2025. The project is expected to become fully operational in 2026.
