China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) has connected the 900 MW Shanwei Jiazi offshore wind project, located around 25 km off the coast of Shanwei, Guangdong province, southern China. The project, the largest offshore wind project in China without government subsidies, consists of 128 wind turbines.
After commissioning a 500 MW offshore wind project in November 2021, CGN now operates 1.4 GW of offshore wind energy off the coast of Shanwei (Shanwei Houhu). The two Shanwei wind farms will produce 4.5 TWh/year of electricity and eliminate 1.45 Mt/year of coal, which will result in a roughly 3.5 MtCO2/year reduction in emissions.
