POWERCHINA has connected the first wind turbine of the 150 MW Khromtau Wind Power Project in Kazakhstan to the grid located in the Aktobe Region, in northwestern Kazakhstan.
This wind project is estimated to require an investment of USD 178 million. It is being developed by Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant JSC, an operator of an aluminum plant, which falls under the natural resources company Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation and is supported by the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.
The Khromtau wind complex will feature the GWH 171-6.25 MW turbine alongside 23 additional units from the Chinese manufacturer. Notably, the first Goldwind turbine was installed and became operational 32 days ahead of schedule. The entire facility is anticipated to be fully operational by the end of 2025. Once completed it is expected to offset 520,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
