ACWA Power to develop 1 GW wind energy and battery storage project in Kazakhstan

ACWA Power has signed a deal with Kazakhstan’s energy ministry and Samruk-Kazyna to lead and develop a 1 GW wind and battery project in the country. This is ACWA Power’s first project in Kazakhstan, and it will invest US$1.5 billion to help the country achieve its climate goals, renewable energy integration, and sustainable development through innovation and technology. The project will replace fossil fuel-based power generation by 2027.

Kazakhstan has a long-term vision to become one of the top 30 global economies by 2050, and sustainability is a key priority. The country aims to get half of its energy from alternative and green sources by 2050. To do this, it is implementing several clean energy initiatives.

The wind and battery project by ACWA Power is one of these initiatives. It will support Kazakhstan’s transition to a low-carbon economy and enhance its energy security and resilience. It will also create jobs and opportunities for local communities.
