Westnetz is one of the largest energy distribution system operators in Germany, headquartered in Dortmund. The company plans, builds, operates and maintains electricity, gas, water and broadband networks across western Germany, particularly in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony. As a key infrastructure provider, Westnetz plays an important role in ensuring a reliable energy supply for both urban and rural areas in the region.
Westnetz is a subsidiary of Westenergie and part of the E.ON Group. The company is responsible for planning, constructing and operating an extensive network infrastructure that includes around 175,000 kilometres of electricity lines and about 24,000 kilometres of gas pipelines. Through this network, Westnetz helps supply energy and related services to around 7.5 million people across its service area.
Founded in 2013, the company builds on more than a century of network experience inherited from earlier regional energy utilities. Today, Westnetz continues to invest in grid innovation and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the growing share of renewable energy and to support a more sustainable and secure energy system in Germany.
