MCA Group

MCA is a Portuguese Group founded in 1998 in Guimarães. The name of the company derives from its founder, the entrepreneur Manuel Couto Alves, who today serves as Chairman of the Company after 20 years in executive leadership. The initial core activity was the construction of infrastructure facilities, such as roads, bridges, water and sanitation, civil, maritime, power and electrical facilities. 

MCA Group is a diversified Portuguese business conglomerate, founded in 1998 in Guimarães by Manuel Couto Alves, and over the past 25+ years, it has grown into an international platform operating across four main verticals: Energies, Urban Development, Infrastructure, and Health. Originally established in construction, the group evolved to lead large‐scale infrastructure and renewable-energy projects — especially in Africa. In its energy business, MCA Group has executed hundreds of megawatts of solar-power capacity and is actively building a multibillion-euro rural-electrification programme in Angola. Its renewable-energy portfolio includes solar parks that have reached populations in sub-Saharan Africa previously lacking reliable electricity — bringing modern energy access to millions, while supporting decarbonization and social development efforts. Beyond energy, MCA leverages its engineering, project-management, and infrastructure expertise to deliver urban-development projects, infrastructure works (roads, construction, public works), and healthcare facilities — seeking to build communities with sustainable growth, social infrastructure, and improved quality of life.
