The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of Western Australia has approved the implementation of the proposed project, Asian Renewable Energy Hub, by NW Interconnected Power Pty Ltd.
The proposed project includes the construction of up to 1,743 wind turbines and around 2,000 MW of solar panels about 220 km east of Port Hedland. The project would also consider the installation of four subsea power cables that transmit green energy to Indonesia and Singapore.
The approval granted by EPA is subjected to conditions such as consultation on management plans with traditional landowners and the management and monitoring of the impacts of the project on the migratory birds.
The project is proposed by a consortium of companies that include Vestas, Australia’s CWP Renewables, Macquarie Group, and Intercontinental Energy.
