WElink Energy has announced that the Central Solar Fotovoltaica Ourika, a 46 MW photovoltaic power plant located in Ourique, in the south of Portugal, has been inaugurated. The plant is the largest in Europe to be connected and operating without public subsidies.
The 46 MW installation was developed by WElink Energy and China Triumph International Engineering Company (CTIEC) for an investment of approximately EUR40 million (US$46.38 million). The plant covers 100 hectares and comprises 142,000 photovoltaic panels. It will generate enough energy to power 23,000 homes.
WElink and its partners’ pioneering success in delivering this project, which is compliant with the new European Network Codes for energy transition, without any subsidies or public investment is a major advance for renewable assets in Europe towards the progressive replacing of conventional generating plants in the coming years.
