VSB has begun construction of the Liethe-Lehmden repowering wind farm in the municipality of Rastede, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Three new wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 18 MW will replace four existing turbines. The new wind farm is expected to generate enough renewable electricity each year to meet the equivalent annual demand of around 11,300 three-person households. Annual electricity generation will therefore increase more than tenfold compared with the existing wind farm.

The Liethe-Lehmden repowering project represents VSB’s first wind farm development in Lower Saxony and is being overseen by the company’s regional office in Osnabrück. Preliminary archaeological surveys have been completed, and work has begun on establishing the construction site, developing access roads and preparing crane platforms. Challenging ground conditions at one of the turbine locations, where the soil is waterlogged and contains peat deposits in some areas, require additional measures to ensure adequate drainage and ground-bearing capacity. Preparatory works for the turbine foundations are expected to be completed by the end of the year, marking a key milestone in the project’s progress.

The dismantling of the four existing NEG Micon NM52 wind turbines, each rated at 0.9 MW, is set to commence in February 2027. Deliveries of components for the three new Vestas V150 turbines are expected to begin in June 2027, with a self-propelled blade transporter facilitating the transport of rotor blades to the site. The upgraded wind farm is scheduled to enter operation in late summer 2027. Beyond Liethe-Lehmden, VSB is advancing additional wind energy developments in Lower Saxony. In July 2026, its Oldenbrok Süd project, situated approximately 20 kilometres away and planned to have a total capacity of 14 MW, secured approval.
