Voltalia completes construction of its 2 GW transmission line In Brasil
Voltalia has reached physical completion of a transmission line of 2 GW for its Serra Branca cluster of wind projects located in NorthEast Brazil, multiplying by six the cluster’s power evacuation capacity. Fast track development and construction of the new line will allow Voltalia’s VSM 1&2 wind farms (291 MW in total) to begin operations ahead of Voltalia’s initial forecasts.
Voltalia’s new transmission facility in the Serra Branca cluster has reached physical completion. It will be connected to the grid shortly.
The new line is capable of servicing wind farms with a total capacity of 2 GW. The line is one of the Continent’s largest construction projects in term of capacity. 52-kilometer long and sustained by 112 towers, the line is designed for a very high voltage of 500 kV.
Voltalia began developing the line in 2016, progressively securing rights of way over 63 pieces of land with 57 different owners, building permits, interconnection rights and other authorizations.
Construction works started early 2019, with Voltalia partnering with Seta Engenharia S.A for the line and WEG for the substation.
Located in North-East Brazil in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, the Serra Branca cluster began to be developed by Voltalia in 2008. Voltalia progressively secured land rights, permits, rights to connect to the power grid and power sale contracts for a series of projects. The Serra Branca cluster expands over a zone of approximately 15 by 50 kilometers, located in one of the windiest spots in the world.

Solatio to invest USD5.4bn in 7.2 GW of solar in Brazil
Spanish energy developer Solatio Energia in a meeting with Minas Gerais state Governor in Brazil last week has announced the investment of BRL 21 billion (USD 5.4 billion) by 2023 in photovoltaic plants in the state. It´s estimated that about 7.2 GW of solar capacity will be developed.

Lightsource BP acquires 1.9 GW of solar projects in Brazil
Lightsource BP, a global leader in the funding, development and long-term operation of solar projects has announced the acquisition of world-class capabilities and approximately 2 GW of greenfield solar photovoltaic projects, at various development stages across Brazil, from Enerlife, a successful independent Latin American renewables developer. As part of this transaction, some members of the Enerlife team will transition across to Lightsource BP to continue serving the acquired portfolio.

Enel completes sale of 540 MW of renewable capacity in Brazil
Enel S.p.A., acting through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil Participações Ltda, has closed the sale of 100% of three fully operational renewable plants totaling 540 MW to Chinese company CGN Energy International Holdings Co. Limited (CGNEI). The overall consideration of the transaction paid to Enel upon closing is equal to the assets’ enterprise value and amounts to approximately BRL2.9 billion (US$740 million).

Iberdrola completes 350 MW hydroelectric project in Brazil
The Iberdrola group, through its subsidiary Neoenergia, has inaugurated the Baixo Iguaçu hydroelectric power station located on Iguaçu river in the state of Paraná, Brazil. The new facility, which was commissioned on December 2018, has an installed capacity of over 350 MW and supplies renewable energy to one million people. Its production will be equivalent to about 8% of the annual electricity demand of the state of Paraná.

EDP Renováveis to invest more than BRL3bn (US$757 million) in Brazil
The leader in the wind energy sector, Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) will receive more investments to generate clean energy. Company EDP Renováveis (EDP) has presented to the state government the project of introduction of 20 wind parks in the next five years. EDP was the company that won the auctions promoted by the federal government for the introduction of wind energy in the RN.
