Viridor has released an update on its energy recovery facility (ERF) in Beddington, Sutton, explaining that the £205 million plant is “expected to become operational in autumn 2018”. The site, which will process 275,000 tonnes per year of non-recyclable waste, was due to be operational in August 2018 with the capacity to treat 95% of all residual waste for the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP) once it comes online.

Viridor has a contract for the transport and management of residual waste for the SLWP, which it won in 2012. This covers Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton boroughs.

The contract involves Viridor designing, building and operating the ERF, which will remain in its ownership and through which it will dispose of municipal residual waste arising in the SWLP area.
