French energy developer TotalEnergies SE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of National Unity of Libya and the General Electric Company of Libya (GECOL) for the development of solar photovoltaic projects with a total generating capacity of 500 MW.
The agreement, signed during the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2021 in Tripoli, aims to strengthen the partnership with TotalEnergies and the African country and to further develop Libya's renewable energy resources. The solar projects will supply energy to the country's national grid and other industrial facilities at the Waha oil field.
The details of the specific projects are not yet disclosed to the public.
