Oman Power and Water Procurement Co. (OPWP) has launched a tender to select independent power producers (IPP) to build a 500 MW solar park in Ibri, a city in the governorate of Ad Dhahirah, in northwestern Oman.
This marks OPWP's fourth 500 MW solar plant initiative. Presently, only one of these projects, the 500 MW Ibri 2 solar venture, is operational. It was officially launched in January 2022 following a construction phase spanning 13 months. These endeavors align with the Omani government's strategy to augment its renewable capacity by approximately 4 GW by the year 2030. In addition to large-scale project advancements, the country's recently introduced regulations for rooftop PV, announced in 2018, will contribute to achieving this target.
