Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation (SESJ), wholly-owned subsidiary of Sharp Corporation, has announced that it has completed construction of a utility-scale solar power plant in Zamyn Uud, Dornogovi Province, Mongolia. The project is being developed in collaboration with Shigemitsu Shoji Co., Ltd. and Mongolian energy company Solar Tech LLC.
The new plant has an output of approximately 16.5 MW (direct current), with annual power generation capacity estimated at 31,162 MWh/year. The output from this facility is expected to allow avoided greenhouse gas emissions of 24,836 t-CO2 per year.
The operation of the project is expected to commence by mid-September 2018.
This is Sharp's second solar project in Mongolia. Back in December 2016, in collaboration with Shigemitsu Shoji and others, the company completed a 10 MW-dc solar power plant - the first utility-scale solar facility in the country.
