The Government of Scotland has approved the earlier rejected 21 MW Gilston Hill wind project to be located near Heriot, southeast of Edinburgh.

In October 2017, the project was turned down by Scottish Borders Council because of concerns on landscape and visual impact to the area. Following an appeal against the rejection, the Scottish authority has ruled out that the cumulative impact of the proposed facility and the nearby Dun Law wind farm would be "acceptable," adding that the planning policy could not provide "any justification" for refusing the seven-turbine project.

The granted planning approval contains 4 conditions that the developer will have to meet including turbine height, noise and traffic control measures, etc.
