RWE has selected preferred suppliers for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind project in Denmark. The company will construct the offshore scheme roughly 22 km west of Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland. In order to connect the wind farm to the Danish power system, RWE will construct two new substations, one on land and one at sea.
Siemens Energy was selected to design, construct, and install the onshore high voltage substation while HSM Offshore Energy is the preferred contractor for the designing, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the offshore high voltage substation and jacket foundation.
On-site building activities are anticipated to commence in the spring of 2023. Once fully operational, which is anticipated to occur no later than 2027, RWE's Thor wind farm will be able to generate enough green electricity to service more than one million Danish households.
