RWE Renewables UK and its new partners will be developing the extension project of the 576 MW Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm off the coast of North Wales, UK.
The extension, named Awel y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, is being developed to the west of the existing Gwynt y Môr. It is located approximately 10.5km off the Welsh coast in the Irish Sea, with a maximum total area of 106km2.
The installation is the sister project to Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm. Work is still in its very early stages. The exact size and capacity of the project is still to be determined while the developers undertake the necessary development and consenting activities.
Awel y Môr Offshore Wind Farm has also secured an agreement for lease with The Crown Estate.
The project partners include RWE with 60%, Stadtwerke München with 30%, and Siemens’ financing arm, Siemens Financial Services with 10%.
