Spanish petroleum and energy company Repsol started the construction of its largest photovoltaic park. The project involves the development of the 264 MW photovoltaic solar park in the municipality of Valdecaballeros in the province of Badajoz in Extremadura region.
The Valdesolar solar park will span 700 hectares and will be made up of 648,000 solar modules. It will have an estimated production of about 514,490 megawatt hours (MWh) a year and will allow it to supply electricity to some 153,000 homes which is about 382,000 people.
The estimated investment of the project is around EUR 200 million (USD 229 million). The construction phase of the project will employ more than 500 people.
The park will be managed by Repsol subsidiary Repsol Electricidad y Gas.
The construction of the solar park is planned to be finished at the beginning of 2021.
Valdesolar solar park is Repsol´s third park to start construction works in Spain. The project, among other renewable projects of the company, will help Repsol to reach its goal of zero net emissions in 2050, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, making it the first in its sector to assume such goal.
