British solar parks developer Lightsource BP has acquired six solar development projects from Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC. The deal has marked a major milestone in the company's strategic US expansion. The 135 MW portfolio consists of solar projects in the liquid PJM power pool, more specifically in the rapidly growing energy markets of Maryland and  Pennsylvania.

The move comes after the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP’s) recently published draft plan to expand in-state solar capacity to 11 GW, with a goal of supplying 10% of the state’s electric retail sales by 2030.

Additionally, BP announced a US$200 million investment into Lightsource in December last year. Two months later, Lightsource BP unveiled its first US project commitment, to build the largest solar farm in Kansas for the Mid-Kansas Electric Company.
