The Democratic Republic of the Congo's (DRC) government has inaugurated the 240 MW Busanga hydroelectric power plant in the southeastern province of Lualaba.

Located 136 km away from Kolwezi's mining hub, the Busanga hydropower plant boasts four turbines with a total capacity of 240 MW. It is anticipated to produce an average annual electricity output of 1.32 billion kilowatt hours.

Financed and constructed under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract at an estimated cost of US$660 million, the project was undertaken by China Railway Resources Group and Power Construction Corporation of China. As part of the agreement, approximately 10% of the plant's output will be supplied to the Sino Congolaise des Mines (Sicomines) mining project.
