Ocean Winds (OW), a joint-venture of EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Engie SA, and Banque des territoires, have closed the final investment decision (FID) for the planned 30 MW floating pilot offshore wind project off the coast of France.

Named as 'Eoliennes flottantes du golfe du Lion (EFGL) project', the pilot wind farm will have three 10-MW wind turbines that will be installed about 16 km offshore from Leucate, Aude, and Le Barcares, Pyrenees-Orientales.

The developers will now proceed with the signing of contracts with the main industrial and financial partners to launch the implementation of the project. The commissioning is targeted by the end of 2023 with up to 20 years of service life.
