The Government of Mozambique has launched tender for interested consultancy firms to carry out an environmental and social impact assessment for two rural and peri-urban electrification projects worth US$298 million.
The projects will be implemented by Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) through respective PIUs, and these projects will cover all Provinces of Mozambique. The Social Energy Directorate (DES) based in Maputo City will be the agency responsible for overall project coordination, planning, and monitoring through the PIUs. The PIUs will be responsible for the implementation of the projects.
The proposed ProEnergia project contributes to the implementation of the “Programa Nacional de Energia para Todos” and will support the expansion of electricity’s access to peri-urban and rural areas by extending and densification of the existing grid network and by promoting the use of off-grid energy solutions in those areas where the grid extension is considered economically unfeasible. The Project development objective is to increase access to electricity service in Mozambique.
The deadline for the submission of documents is on March 15, 2020.
