MCX Environmental Energy Corp has announced that it has invested in a KES10 billion (US$100 million) solar project in a community-owned sustainable city in Western Kenya.
The solar farm will be integrated into the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) and will have a minimum capacity of 30 MW, expandable to 50 MW in the future. The project will enter construction in November 2019 and is seen to be finalized by December 2020.
The US$2 billion MMTC project is a green city that is currently in its third and final phase of development and is expected to be completed in 2020. The residences and various establishments within the city will be supplied by green energy from a 144 MW waste-to-energy facility that complements to the solar park.
