The Community Choice energy provider, Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Castle Wind LLC, the developer of the 7.5 GW Castle Wind floating project, for the planned 1000 MW offtake deal in the offshore wind farm.
Castle Wind is a joint venture between Trident Winds Inc and the North American unit of German energy major EnBW.
The offshore wind facility will consist of approximately 100 floating offshore wind systems (FOWS). Each FOWS will consist of a commercially available floating support structure and a large offshore wind turbine generator (OWTG) with a nameplate capacity greater than 8MW. Each FOWS is moored to the ocean floor using conventional properly sized, vertical load, drag embedded, or torpedo anchors, a technology that requires no piling and is well suited for deep and variable seabed conditions.
