Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has started the environmental review of the 2 GW Mayflower offshore wind project off the shores of Massachusetts in the USA.
The project is proposed by the joint venture of Shell New Energies US LLC and Ocean Winds which in turn are between the EDP Renovaveis SA and Engie SA. The offshore wind farm will have 147 wind turbines and up to five offshore power substations some 30 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 23 miles south of Nantucket.
The environmental review process is expected to finish within two years. The Notice of Intent, published on November 1, 2021, includes the opening of a 30-day public comment period designed to help BOEM determine the scope of the issues that should be analyzed in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
