Massachusetts utilities Eversource Energy, National Grid USA, and Unitil Corp. have jointly issued a request for proposals to procure between 200 MW and 800 MW of offshore wind energy. This is the second solicitation by the utilities as part of a larger state-directed mandate to procure 1,600 MW of offshore wind.
Issued May 23, 2019, the utilities' request is offering 15 to 20-year power purchase agreements for supply ranging from 200 MW to 800 MW. The selected projects should come operational before January 1, 2027.
In a May 17 decision, Massachusetts' Department of Public Utilities accepted the utilities' proposed timetable, which calls for an August 9 deadline for confidential proposal submissions followed by an August 16 due date for public proposal submissions.
The selected projects need to enter commercial operation before January 1, 2027.
