The Ministry of Investment of Jordan has invited private-sector companies to qualify for the development of a 450 MW pumped hydroelectric energy storage project near the existing Al-Mujib Dam in Jordan under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The Mujib Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project will be developed under a PPP framework using the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model. The project involves the financing, design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of a 450 MW pumped-hydroelectric energy storage facility adjacent to the existing Al-Mujib Dam in Jordan.

The facility will provide up to seven hours of electricity storage at full capacity. It will store surplus electricity, particularly solar power generated during daylight hours, by pumping water to an upper reservoir and releasing it to generate electricity during periods of peak demand. The project is expected to enhance power system flexibility, increase the integration of renewable energy, strengthen energy security and reduce reliance on imported fuels.

The offering process will be carried out in two phases:

  1. Phase 1 – Invitation to Initial Qualification (RFQ): Inviting interested parties to submit their qualifications for the purpose of qualifying for the shortlist.
  1. Phase Two – Request for Proposals (RFP): Only shortlisted qualified applicants will be invited to submit their technical and financial proposals.

The deadline for submitting prequalification applications is Monday, January 18, 2027, at 12:00 PM local time in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. For more information, please visit our Business Opportunity page.
