South American fruit processing company Grupo Verfrut Chile & Peru has inaugurated a 1,090-kWp floating solar farm on an irrigation dam in the O’Higgins region, central Chile.
Verfrut's initiative has established the most extensive floating solar farm in the Southern Cone region. Featuring 1,998 solar panels, the facility can produce electricity equivalent to around 40% of Verfrut's power requirements at its Quilamuta fruit farm. Solarity spearheaded the project's development, with construction overseen by Andes Solar. In the project's second phase, Solarity intends to incorporate storage systems. This enhancement will enable the expanded facility to fulfill 100% of Verfrut's energy demands around the clock.
