SSE Renewables’ Strathy South Wind Farm project took a significant step forward in the formal consent process this week when the Highland Council’s North Planning Applications Committee raised no objection to the proposed changes.

Strathy South is located to the south of SSE Renewables' operational Strathy North Wind Farm, approximately 12km to the south of Strathy Village in Sutherland. The application seeks to vary the existing consent to change the 39 turbines’ tip heights from 135m to 200m and increase generating capacity at the site to up to 208MW.

The committee supported the recommendation of the Highland Council planners to raise no objection, subject to the removal of four turbines. However, the final decision to grant consent to the variation will now be taken by Scottish Ministers.
