Frontier Energy has announced that it will add a four-hour, 80 MW battery energy storage system to its 120 MWdc Waroona Renewable Energy Project currently under construction in Western Australia. The BESS is expected to generate approximately AUD 24 million (US$15.73 million) in revenue in 2026-27.
In order to satisfy anticipated peak power demand, the reserve capacity mechanism is intended to make sure that there is sufficient generation capacity available in Western Australia's Wholesale power Market (WEM). According to the company, the combination of solar and battery energy storage offered the best financial returns with the least amount of cash required and the least amount of technical risk when compared to other options.
