MHI Vestas has installed the first of 44 turbines at Norther wind facility.
The project is located 23 kilometers off the coast of Belgian port Zeebruges and has a total capacity of 370 megawatts, the largest production capacity of all Belgian wind farms. The development of the project also involves the design and supply of 89 cable protection systems for the inner array and export links. There is a total of 45 foundations, which amounts to about 47 million kilos of steel.
The installation at Norther, 23 km off the shore, is based on a collaboration of Elicio, Eneco and DGE (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation) and Van Oord Delta Marine Consultants. When fully commissioned, Norther will provide clean energy close to 400,000 Belgian households.
