The Prapretno Solar Power Plant in Slovenia, developed by state-energy producer HSE on a rehabilitated landfill near Hrastnik, is undergoing expansion and upgrades.
The project is now being continued with the construction of new Prapretno units 2 and 3, as well as the installation of the battery energy storage system. Prapretno Solar Power Plants 2 and 3 will have a total installed capacity of 6.75 MW, which equals the installation of more than 12,000 solar panels. The average annual production is estimated at 6,865 MWh and is comparable to the supply of more than 1,500 households. The project also includes a battery energy storage system with an output of 7 MW and a capacity of 14 MWh, which will enhance the stability of the electric power system and enable more efficient production adjustments to meet market needs.
The investment value amounts to EUR 10.85 million (US$ 12.7 million) exclusive of VAT, of which more than EUR 4 million (US$ 4.6 million) is being co-financed by the European Union’s Cohesion Fund. The completion of works and the commissioning are anticipated for spring 2026. The power plant is planned to be operable for 30 years. The contract with RIKO, celovite tehnološke rešitve d.o.o., covers the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of Prapretno Solar Power Plants 2 and 3, along with the battery energy storage system. The facility is situated in the municipalities of Trbovlje and Hrastnik on a rehabilitated former landfill site where post-closure measures are no longer required.
