Engie plans 1.2 GWh battery energy storage project in Belgium

Engie is planning to build three battery energy storage system facilities with a combined capacity of 1.5 GWh across different sites in Belgium. 

The projects involved are the 80 MW/320 MWh in the Drogenbos, in Flemish Brabant, 100 MW/400 MWh of storage at the site in Kallo, in East Flanders, and a 200 MW/800 MWh in Vilvoorde, Flemish Brabant. 

All three projects are expected to be able to provide power for four hours. Engie is currently operating a 1,080 MW pumped hydro storage facility in Belgium.
