Emirates Waste to Energy Company (EWEC), a joint venture of Beeah Energy and Masdar, has started the commercial operation of the 30 MW waste-to-energy plant located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Constructed by CNIM, the project covers an area of 80,000 sq m. adjacent to a waste-management complex operated by Beeah Recycling, a recycling and material recovery business of Beeah Group. The facility is expected to treat more than 300,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per year and provide 45 million cubic meters of natural gas each year.
The waste-to-energy plant will generate enough energy to supply the demand of about 28,000 homes and offset 450,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
