A consortium led by Electricité De France (EDF) has signed an agreement to develop a 240 MWp floating solar farm on the 1.07 GW Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant in Laos.
EDF is partnering with Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE) and the Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) of Thailand to develop the solar project in Khammuan province. The project is expected to be the largest hybrid floating solar project that would cover up to 3.2 square kilometers of area.
The construction of the solar farm is expected to start in 2022.
