Ecopetrol and AES Colombia put into operation the largest solar energy park that has been built in the country, located in the municipality of Castilla La Nueva, in the department of Meta.
The solar park was built by AES Colombia at the request of Ecopetrol under a 15-year power supply contract, which includes its operation and maintenance. The investment is approximately US$20 million.
The park has an installed capacity of 21 megawatts (MWp), equivalent to the capacity to energize a city of 27,000 inhabitants. It will supply the energy required by the Castilla field, the second largest in Colombia with a production close to 115 thousand barrels of oil per day.
Castilla Solar Park has an area of 18 hectares, equivalent to 16 professional soccer fields, where more than 54,500 panels of the highest technology are located.
Its entry into operation will prevent the emission of more than 154 thousand tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere, which is equivalent to planting 16,200 trees.
