The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has disclosed that it is considering a EUR31 million (US$35.5 million) loan for a 30 MW solar project in Kazakhstan.
Project sponsors Total EREN (majority) and Access Infra Central Asia Ltd. are proposing to install 30 MW solar power in the Kyzylorda region of Southern Kazakhstan, reducing the dependence of the region on electricity imports (mostly from coal fired plants in the North) and reduce associated transmission losses. The total cost of the project is estimated to be KZT17.1 billion (US47.3 million).
The loan is scheduled to be considered by EBRD's board on 19 September 2018. If approved, it will be one of the first project finance transactions in Kazakhstan.
